Why producing specialty coffees?

Alessandro Hervaz, a small scale Brazilian coffee grower and one of the leading figures of the APAS association of growers from São Gonçalo de Sapucaí told algrano’s community this week why small growers produce specialty coffee. Is it really just about price? Here’s a translation from Portuguese of Alessandro’s answer.

“The majority of growers will probably say that that they produce specialty coffee to sell it at a better price and I don’t think they are wrong: we, growers need to be well remunerated because a specialty coffee is only produced by a special and dedicated grower who needs to be well remunerated for his efforts.

But what motivates us, growers from APAS, is not only higher price:

Knowing who buys and roast our coffee, where it is drunk and that this coffee holds the name of the grower who produced it is very rewarding and make us very proud!

During the last years we have been receiving many feedbacks from roasters about the quality of our coffees.

We believe and count a lot on the platform algrano, this is an opportunity for us to show our coffees to the world. We are looking forward to send our samples and I hope that many roasters will be able to buy our coffees and help us to bring the history of our association APAS and of its growers’ members to various corners of the Planet! You will not regret!”
